LITMA needs volunteer assistance to keep the dancing going.  We need folks to help with set up, take down, sound and sitting at the door. If you can come early or stay late, please do.  See Chart about sitting at the door (there is a sign up when you come in).  We are also in serious need of folks who can help with sound. This could be as little as coming early or staying late and helping schlep sound equipment up & down the stairs. See Dave about helping with Sound.

LITMA Contra Band leads an open on-line Celtic jam almost daily. With Sonobus we all play together and hear each other (unlike Zoom jams). We convene Mon-Tue and Thu-Sat 5:30-7:00 PM (All times New York). You can arrive late, leave early, etc as you like.|

First-Time Setup:
(1) You will need broadband internet service, usually this means cable or fiber (eg, FIOS).
(2) Your computer needs to be connected (with Ethernet cable) to your router or cable modem; WiFi will lead only to frustration.
(3) Install Sonobus on your computer from www.sonobus.net
(4) To get the for repertoire send me an e-mail (both addresses below, please).

Regular use:
(1) Run Sonobus
(2) Connect to the private group LITMA (case-sensitive: not “Litma”, not “litma”, etc).

To stay in contact, you can join the LITMA and Friends Remote Jam group chat on FaceBook

Optional Video via the link in Sonobus – don’t worry, we’ll talk you through it.

If you’re not sure your setup works, please try to arrange a time with me beforehand to test.

Jim Gregory will be returning to Call for us this month. Jim is a long time Caller from Hartford, CT. He always calls fun and interesting dances that get everyone up and dancing.

The band for the dance will be the LITMA Contra Band. Led by Mary Abdill the LITMA Contra Band is LITMA’s own house band. They rehearse regularly and donate their services to LITMA. They always provide a lively dance with a BIG sound!

LITMA will monitor the COVID Community Level and adjust our policy as necessary.
For LOW Community Level the LITMA Smithtown Dance Policy is as follows:

1) Masks NOT required. 
2) Proof of Vaccination not required.
3) LITMA will have masks and hand sanitizer available and encourage their use.
4) if you have symptoms STAY HOME.

Dave Harvey will be calling the Dance. Dave is an energetic caller who is passionate about celebrating community through dance.  He also runs NYCBarnDance.com which runs dances throughout New York City. 

The band for the Dance will be the LITMA Contra Band. The LITMA Contra Band is a group of dedicated volunteers who get together regularly to practice and play traditional music together. They fill the stage with musicians and provide lively danceable music for the dancers.

The next LITMA Contradance will be Sunday, November 19 in Glen Cove, Chart Guthrie will be calling with the band Dance All Night.

The LITMA Contra Band will be playing for a couple of hours Sunday, Oct 8 starting around noon for the Heritage Country Fair at the Smithtown Historical Society, 239 E Main St. Smithtown, NY (the fair is not a LITMA event; rescheduled from Sep 24 due to expected bad weather).

The Federal COVID 19 Public Health Emergency ended as of May 11, 2023. LITMA will no longer monitor the status of COVID nor Require masks. LITMA will provide masks and hand sanitizer to those who wish to use them.

Civil War Encampment – the Long Island Traditional Music Association will be joining us for tunes and dances!

The LITMA dance band will play and call traditional dances from noon to 2PM.

The House Sing will lead singing from 2:30PM to 4PM.

Audience participation is expected and welcomed!
