what is Contra Dance?

Contra dance refers to several folk dance styles in which couples dance in two facing lines of indefinite length. Contra dances can be found around the world, though they are especially popular in the United States.

 What is Gender-Role Free Contra Dance? 

Gender-role free contra dance is a form of contra dancing in which one can lead or follow and there is no reference to gender in the calling. This form of dancing has grown in popularity over the past few years!

 PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL DANCES AT THE LONG ISLAND ALL TOGETHER DANCE SERIES WILL BE TAUGHT.  BEGINNERS ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE!     

Directions to First Presbyterian Church of Glen Cove: 

By train take the Long Island Railroad's Oyster Bay line from Penn Station to the Glen Cove Station.  Approximate travel time is one hour.  Please make arrangements with organizers of the event at least two days in advance if you would like to be picked up from the station.  Email OutNAboutGC@aol.com.

 By car travel North on Glen Cove Rd from Northern State Parkway, Long Island Expressway (I-495) or Northern Blvd(25A). Glen Cove Road eventually merges w/ 107 North.  Follow signs for 107 North until it dead-ends at the firehouse in Glen Cove.  Make a right at the firehouse.  The church will be on your right after the third stoplight.  It is Tudor in style and sits on top of a hill.
