2008 LITMA Solstice Celebration
 Ragtime & Vintage Dances
Dance Master Marc Casslar
Saturday, December 20, 6:00 - 10:00 pm

(First 100 people only so come early)

Music by Liz Stell and Bill Matthiesen of Spare Parts

American dancing from the 1890s through the 1920s includes couple dances such as the ragtime waltz, schottische, one-step, foxtrot, tango and blues.  Dance master Marc Casslar, founder of the Vintage Dance Society, will teach us a few of these elegant gems. Live ragtime and early ballroom music.  Bonus: 1:00 pm—Learn “The Cake Walk” and all about its origins from April Masten, history professor, dancer.

Location: Smithtown SHS Brush Barn $15 LITMA members; $18 nonmembers
Join us for a potluck supper (bring a dish to share) and an evening of old-fashioned (think medieval times) fun as we make merry to celebrate the Winter Solstice. There will be plenty of audience-participation: a Mummer’s Play, sing-along (song sheets provided) plus a display of ancient ritual Morris Dancing and the mysterious Abbotts Bromley Horn Dance, done by moonlight (be there by 6:00 pm for this unique treat). Come alone, bring the family—it’s an event where everyone is drawn into the fun.

Location: Smithtown SHS Brush Barn
Admission: $10 adults; $5 kids
